For decades, “least privilege” has been the holy grail of access management—granting users only the minimum access they need to do their jobs. In theory, it’s a beautiful idea. In practice? It’s nearly impossible to maintain.
The issue isn’t just that least privilege is hard to implement—it’s fundamentally incompatible with the speed and complexity of modern business. It’s a brittle model that fails the moment the unexpected happens.
Instead, we should be asking a different question: What if it’s not about limiting access permanently, but about controlling access in time?
